Research interests

Nanophotonics: The propagation of light in micro- and nano-structured optical materials. This includes photonic crystals, planar waveguide switches and demultiplexers, diffractive optical elements, and plasmonic systems. Applications are found in optical telecommunications, biomedical sensing and metrology

Current and recent projects

Heterogeneous integration of III-V materials with silicon waveguides

Photonic crystal superprism demultiplexers in SOI

Design of etched grating demultiplexers

Electro-optic switches based on planar waveguide Fabry-Perot etalon in GaAs

Integration of surface plasmon resonance sensors

Enhanced sensitivity SPR sensors based on the plasmon bandgap effect

Optical switch based on MEMS micro-motors

Free-space optical interconnects

Diffractive and refractive micro-optics
