MECH 650 Fundamentals of Heat Transfer
My research activities are mainly in the areas of fluid flow and heat transfer in energy conversion, exchange, and storage systems, and involve formulation of cost-effective mathematical models, numerical solution methods, and experimental investigations. Currently, my graduate students, Canadian and international collaborators, and I are working on the following research topics: control-volume finite element methods; compact and ultra-compact heat exchangers; air cooling systems for netbook computers; thermal energy storage in rock-bed and solid-liquid phase-change systems; heat transfer enhancement using slurries of microencapsulated phase change materials suspended in liquids; loop heat pipes; fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media; fluid-solid particle flows; modeling of forest fires; and optimum thermal design of heat transfer devices.
