Biography

Valerie Kinslow has taught at McGill since September 1994. Recognized as one of the nation's foremost interpreters of music from the Baroque era, she has performed frequently with Tafelmusik, Le Studio de Musique Ancienne and L'Esemble Arion and has been guest soloist with numerous Canadian orchestras and oratValerie Kinslow has taught at McGill since September 1994. After initial studies in her native province of Nova Scotia, Ms. Kinslow studied music and philosophy at McGill. With awards from the Canada Council and the Nova Scotia Trust, she went to London, where she studied 17th and 18th century vocal repertoire with the renowned tenor Nigel Rogers.

Critically acclaimed for her many performances in oratorio, Valerie Kinslow is equally at ease in recital or in contemporary chamber ensembles. Her numerous public recordings for the CBC have included such contrasting works as Hindemith's Die Serenaden and Bach's Wedding Cantata, No. 202. Her most recent CD includes Schoenberg's Four Songs, Op. 2 and early Lieder by Berg and Webern. In addition to her teaching activities at McGill (Voice, Early Music Ensembles, Cappella Antica), Ms. Kinslow is also affiliated with the Université de Montréal (Chant Baroque, Chant Classique) and Concordia University (Voice, Vocal Repertoire from the Late Renaissance to the Present).
